Pea Soup 🙂🥣
1# bag of split peas( yellow or green)or lentils!
1 cup diced onions( fresh or frozen).
I smoked ham hock.
1 t. minced garlic in oil( from a jar).
2 cubes Knorr chicken flavour cubes.
Dash of Cumin
*Optional 2.5 cups diced turkey ham_ OR
*Optional 1# sliced kielbasa sausage( however when I do it that way Max says it's not as good).
Cracked black pepper or 3 pepper ground pepper mix (what Pa used) to taste(approx 1.5 t.).
The ham and hock tend to be salty so I dont add any seasoning beside the Knorr( which tends toward saltiness too).
Rinse the peas well and drain off. No presoak required!
Put the above ingredients in a pot and cover with water plus about 2 inches.
Always stirring, cover and bring to a gentle boil.
Add water if needed to keep peas covered.
Reduce heat and continue to cook at simmer/bubbles breaking the surface heat level( medium to low?)
Just babysit it and stir it and taste it til peas are cooked-cooked/kinda mushy. Not firm at all but does not lose form ( about 2 hrs).

Bon Appetit!👩🍳
NOTE: Gas or Electric stove as well as the material your pot is made of can make a difference on heat and cook time making it important to stir often and babysit the soup!
